What to check before shortlisting any scheme

Fresh NAV tells you today's price per unit, not whether a scheme suits you. These are the documents-based checks worth doing for every scheme.

  • Riskometer level
    Every scheme shows a SEBI riskometer (Low to Very High). Match it to your comfort and time horizon.
  • Category & mandate
    SEBI defines what each category may invest in. Read the scheme information document, not just the name.
  • Expense ratio & exit load
    Ongoing costs and exit charges reduce what you keep. Regular plans include distributor commission.
  • Benchmark & horizon
    Compare a scheme with its own benchmark over your intended holding period — past returns don't repeat.
